Jean Louis Trintignant, one of France's most revered and famous actors, always dreamt of owning a vineyard. He has fulfilled that dream through a partnership with his old friend Bertrand Cortellini at Domaine Rouge Garance.
The estate is located to the west of Avignon, near Remoulins in the village of St. Hilaire d'Ozilhan. The Gard region has similar soils to that of Châteauneuf du Pape. The estate is farmed with minimal chemical treatments, in the style of the French term lutte raisonnée, and all harvesting is done by hand. The wine is made from estate grown, dry farmed, old vine (40 year average) grapes: 50% Grenache, 35% Cinsault and 15% Syrah. The soil in which these vines grow is composed of pebble strewn clay and limestone. Visit www.rougegarance.com for more information
Tasting Notes
The wine has intense aromas of red fruit, with a hint of mineral and herbs de Provence. On the palate, it offers an explosion of cherry and raspberry flavors with mature, soft tanins, and mouth watering acidity. This wine is an excellent value...consider it akin to a mini-Châteauneuf du Pape.
