Aloxe-Corton is the native village of the Latour family who have been intimately involved in the affairs of the commune for over three centuries. Of the total hectarage under vines, the Latour family controls just over 13% of production centered on the famous Château and cuverie of Corton-Grancey. The name Les Chaillots refers to the stony, pebbly nature of the soil in this vineyard, as caillou means pebble in french. The wine is of a distinctive character with a bouquet said to resemble freshly baked bread. There is an alliance in the wines of Aloxe-Corton between the finesse of a Côte de Beaune and the mellow, powerful appeal of the Côte de Nuits. This is a wine that can age for over 10 years.
Aloxe Corton 1er Cru
This is a charming wine with ripe fruit aromas; its spicy nature was conferred by the 12 months it spent in our Louis Latour oak barrels. Offering rich vanilla, bing cherries and licorice, this complex wine is round, mellow and nicely structured. A well balanced wine that should be enjoyed after three to five years of cellaring.
Allen Meadows, Burghound: 88 points
